Cathédrale Notre-Dame of 17th century cathedral is the sight of a national pilgrimage in Easter that honours the Virgin Mary for saving the city from bubonic plague in the 14th century. The Corniche de la Corniche is a pedestrian walkway that runs along the Alzette Valley on the city ramparts. Museum of the History of the City of Luxembourg that traces the development of Luxembourg over 1000 years, from its beginnings as a 10th century fortress to the present day as an important European centre. National Museum of History and Art with its substantial collection of archaeological finds, medieval artefacts and fine and decorative arts with temporary exhibitions organized throughout the year. Palais Grand-Duca is a residence of the Grand-Ducal family, the palace is situated in the heart of the Old Town. Place d’Armes is the city’s liveliest and most popular square located at the heart of the pedestrian area of Luxembourg. The city’s flea market is held here fortnightly. Place Guillaume populated by an abundance of cafes it is also home to the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall) and a farmer’s market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
