Modern Riyadh city is well-known as Saudi Arabia's largest city and the official capital of the country. Prior to the 80s of XX century all government agencies, embassies and commercial establishments were located in Jeddah, only within last few years foreign representative offices have moved to so-called diplomatic quarter. So the city is still known as political capital and a symbol of royal authority and not overloaded with entities or international organizations and maintains its national flavor. Revenues from oil boom transformed the capital into high-tech oasis built of glass, steel and concrete. Here are located huge hotels, one of the largest airports in the world which advertised everywhere on thousands of posters. Most of the royal palaces, buildings and mosques are spread out in the central part of Old city. In the center and the oldest part of Riyadh called Al-Batha are located all the historic buildings, bus stations and post office which are concentrated around the numerous coffee shops and cafes. Another sight is Masmak fortress that was built approximately in 1865 and renovated in early 90s of 20th century. Museum of Riyadh is located in the western part of Al-Batha and keeps a large collection of history and archeology of the kingdom from the Stone Age to Early Islamic period, the exposure of Islamic architecture and ethnography hall with a large model of the fort Masmak, wardrobe items, musical instruments, traditional dishes, weapons and jewels of the Islamic period.

Historic Center of King Abdul-Aziz is located in the same old quarter of the capital. It’s displayed photographs, objects of decorative crafts, video footage, here is also located the National Museum of Saudi Arabia with a collection of manuscripts and documents, museum Darat Al-Malik, a library, auditorium, mosque and gardens. Original museumis also located here as a palace-fortress Murabba. Center for Research and Islamic studies named after King Faisal's exposition offers a collection of Islamic art and a permanent exhibition of old books and manuscripts in the University Museum of King Saud University presented a collection of archaeological excavations, Numismatic Museum and Art Gallery Hevar with a collection of works by masters of the Middle East.

One of the most famous landmarks is the Royal Center skyscraper built with the typical monarchical scale and Oriental luxury. Simultaneously there has bee used only new and latest international building technologies. This is one of the tallest buildings of the world with impressive and unique design. The building is owned by Saudi prince and built to unusual project, here are located a complex of modern offices, apartments, Four Seasons Hotel, a three-level shopping mall and first-class restaurants. In the area of Qasr-al-Hukm you can see the building of Riyadh municipality, evolved with amazing combination of modern and traditional architectural styles. Another tallest building is the complex of the Ministry of Information with 176 meters tower height. The complex of buildings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was created in the best traditions of modern Islamic architecture. The King Fahd Stadium, in turn, is built in the shape of a huge Arabian tent, the National Library of King Fahd, the water with its original style, the zoo, horse riding club.

Historically important place worth to be visited is Dirayya that is a town situated 30 km away from Riyadh. Dirayya is the first capital of the Kingdom and the most popular archaeological site, the city was founded in 1446 and achieved the power in late 18th century, then its was destroyed in 1818. Now, among the ruins you can see several palaces, mosques and the old city wall.
