Wine Valley Lodge (Napa, USA)

The Wine Valley Lodge is a vintage motel built in the California Mission-style located just off Highway 29 at Imola Avenue and Coombs Street. This rustic adobe style motel is arranged in a plaza setting around a pool creating a resort atmosphere at an affordable price. This lodge in the heart of the Napa Valley has an interesting story to tell.Built in 1953 and originally named Casa LuAl after the first owners daughter Lucille and husband Allen- the Lodge played a role in Hollywood movie making. In 1959- Hollywood arrived in Napa to begin filming This Earth is Mine starring Rock Hudson- Jean Simmons- Cindy Robins and Claude Rains. Many people in Napa were excited and some people even got parts as extras in the movie.Two years later- Elvis Presley arrived in Napa to film the 1961 movie Wild in the Country with Tuesday Weld and Hope Lange. This was a very exciting time for teenage girls in Napa- as they waited in long lines at the fairgrounds to see Elvis and get his autograph. All of the stars stayed at the Wine Valley Lodge.Later the Lodge was a home for student pilots for Japan Airlines who were going through training at the Napa Airport. The current owners like to tell stories of the motels past history as they preserve the Wine Valley Lodge as one of only two single story true motel type businesses in Napa.The lodge was completely renovated in 2006 and offers comfortable rooms with all the modern conveniences. Room rates include a dlx continental breakfast and hi-speed Internet. A perfect setting for families and romantic getaways the picnic area gets a lot of use and a swim in the pool is a perfect way to end a busy day.
